My rating system:

★★★★★ – 4.5 or 5 stars. I thought this book was fantastic and I couldn’t put it down. I felt strong emotions when reading it and the plot completely drew me in. If this book is part of a series, I would do anything to get the next installment. I would highly recommend this to even people who aren’t book lovers.

★★★★☆ – 3.5 or 4 stars. I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and thought that the plot was very interesting. There may have been a few kinks here and there, such as predictability or loopholes, but I was able to look past them for the most part. I would recommend this to all book lovers.

★★★☆☆ – 2.5 or 3 stars. I didn’t love this book, but it was enjoyable enough. It was generally good, but there may have been plot inconsistencies or frustrating characters. I would recommend this to people who enjoy a certain type of book.

★★☆☆☆ – 1.5 or 2 stars. I didn’t like this book. I found myself skimming after a certain point. I felt almost no connection to the characters and I didn’t think the plot was very special. There are parts of the book that actually made me roll my eyes and groan. I might recommend this book to a very specific reading crowd.

★☆☆☆☆ – 0.5 or 1 star. I thought the book was completely unrealistic and unrelatable. I was either extremely annoyed with the characters or didn’t care for them at all. The plot may have been overly predictable or the writing hard to understand. It’s highly likely that I did not finish (DNF) this book. I would not recommend this.

☆☆☆☆☆ – 0 stars. I found nothing redeeming about this book. The characters were shallow and forgetful, the story was unoriginal, and the world-building was nonexistent. This is probably a book that I DNF.

All of my book reviews are completely honest and spoiler-free. My reviews aren’t, and can’t be, influenced in any way. I review the book, not the author. If I have a negative review and/or don’t finish a book, I’m sure to properly describe what I disliked about the book. I understand that there’s a lot of work put into books, and I always keep that in mind. I don’t omit my positive thoughts on any book, even if I give it a low rating (same goes for negative thoughts, even if I give it a high rating). If I choose to, I may also write a book discussion in which I create a conversation surrounding the book and include details such as the plot, characters and world-building. My book discussions contain spoilers.

Once I read and review a book, I’ll post my review on this blog, Goodreads, and Amazon. I’ll also have a link to my review on my Twitter, and upload a photo of the physical copy of the book, if applicable, to my Instagram (Bookstagram).

Review requests can be sent to JoreleneBooks@gmail.com. I’ll typically respond within 24 hours. If the book is an ARC, I’ll aim to publish a review shortly before the release date, unless asked otherwise. If there’s any other deadline, please include that in your request.
